South Africans are thinking twice about their leaky taps, and considering water storage<\/a><\/strong> solutions quite carefully. Saving water must remain a priority for all of us.
\nWhy is saving water so important in South Africa? It\u2019s this simple: we are the 39th<\/sup>\u00a0\u2018driest\u2019 country in the world. Let\u2019s not forget too, that the\u00a0Eastern Cape is facing a monumental water crisis\u00a0\u2013 it\u2019s not just Cape Town that\u2019s in jeopardy \u2013 it\u2019s the whole country.
\nWhile rainfall may fool us into a false sense of water security, our country is water-scarce. In fact, as this article from\u00a0Africa Check outlines, we received less than 75% of our expected rainfall<\/a>\u00a0in 2015, and that put us into drought conditions. And, in light of this article\u2019s findings, it turned even\u00a0worse during 2016 and 2017<\/a>.
\nPutting our rainfall predictions and water supply augmentation ideas aside, saving water should be an imperative for every company, community, and home, in South Africa. Of course, our school curriculum places great emphasis on the importance of saving water, and global initiatives like\u00a0Water.org<\/a>\u00a0also try to bring home the message of water conservation, but when will enough water be saved?
\nThe truth is: never.\u00a0As the World Bank outlines<\/a>:
\nWater is at the centre of economic and social development; it is vital to maintain health, grow food, manage the environment, and create jobs. Despite water\u2019s importance, over\u00a0<\/em>663 million people<\/em>\u00a0in the world still lack access to improved drinking water sources.<\/em>
\nAnd that\u2019s why initiatives like\u00a0World Water Day<\/a>\u00a0remain important, because saving water is just the start. Securing the water supply for every citizen is vital for survival and economic growth and creating effective water store solutions is important. Globally, water scarcity has become an even bigger concern,\u00a0as more and more cities, including London<\/a>, are predicted to run out of water within the next few decades.
\nSecuring a clean supply of water and creating effective water storage solutions must remain a priority for every country, community, and individual.
