Sugarcane farmers in Kwambonambi, Larsen Farming, were looking for a solution to mitigate the risk of increasing input costs as a result of ongoing fuel and electricity price increases. The operation, which includes an administrative building, workshops and various operational pumps, also required a system that would allow them to continue operating during load shedding periods.
SBS Energy, working with authenticated data from the farm, implemented a grid-tied solar solution with integrated dashboards to ensure effective usage of energy from the grid. The farm owner is now able to reduce his off-the-grid consumption, supplement supply from solar, and ensure operational continuity.
A 40% cost saving on electricity inputs has been achieved by the implementation of the solution, with the farmer now able to manage budgets and expenditure, backup power balances and energy utilisation via multi-layered visual dashboards.
