From what was once untouched sand dunes, a world-class, integrated resort has risen – designed to host thousands of guests across hotel accommodation, self-catering units, conference facilities, staff housing, recreational zones, and landscaped grounds. For a development of this scale, any interruption to water supply would have immediate and far-reaching consequences, from guest experience and safety to brand reputation and operational continuity.
That reality set the stage for SBS Tanks’ involvement.
Before SBS Tanks arrived on site, the single biggest concern was clear: reliable, on-site water availability. With peak guest occupancy estimated at 1000 rooms (across suites, villas & lodges) and extensive laundry and food preparation requirements, fire hydrant systems, irrigation, and staff accommodation all drawing from the same network, failure was simply not an option.
A delay or failure in water storage would have triggered operational chaos – guest dissatisfaction, health risks, reputational damage, and potential shutdowns. In destination-scale tourism, infrastructure reliability is not a support function; it is a business enabler.
SBS Tanks was engaged alongside consulting engineers Struxit, with R&B Civils acting as the civil contractor. Early discussions began with a request for 1 megalitre of storage, but through collaborative planning and technical guidance, SBS advised on a 1.2 megalitre solution to better support long-term operational resilience.
Design decisions extended beyond capacity alone. The tank needed to:
• Meet backup water and fire hydrant requirements
• Comply with height restrictions to reduce visual impact
• Blend into the resort’s architectural design
The result was a low-profile ST28/04 tank, strategically positioned toward the rear of the resort and powder-coated to match the roof colours of the Club Med buildings, ensuring essential infrastructure did not compromise the resort’s aesthetic vision. View our commercial range here.
Installation took place at the height of construction, with roofing, HVAC, tarring, and multiple contractors operating simultaneously. SBS constructed the ring beam and installed the tank using its ground-up jacking system, eliminating the need for cranes, scaffolding, or working at height.
This installation approach was widely praised on site. By reducing risk, simplifying SHEQ compliance, and maintaining a controlled footprint, SBS enabled seamless coordination with other trades – earning strong feedback for professionalism and efficiency.
The completed system delivers 1,206 kilolitres of secure backup water, fed by a dedicated bulk supply line from Siza Water located approximately 5 km away. Since commissioning, the tank has:
• Ensured uninterrupted water supply for guests and staff
• Reduced reliance on municipal variability
• Strengthened fire protection compliance
• Delivered peace of mind to operators and investors alike
Despite being ready ahead of schedule, SBS coordinated commissioning to align with broader site readiness – demonstrating flexibility and partnership beyond the contracted scope.
