SBS Solutions East Africa Limited, a division of SBS Tanks Pty Ltd, recently completed the successful installation of two bulk fire water storage tanks to store over 1 million litres of fire suppression water at the new Kenya Wine Agencies Ltd (KWAL) production facility in Kenya’s first operational Special Economic Zone in Tatu City, Kiambu. The move, after 34 years in the Enterprise Road Industrial Area, will enhance KWAL’s production capability and improve working conditions for staff.
KWAL is the local East African manufacturer of world-renowned brands that include, amongst others, Viceroy Brandy, Amarula, Hunter’s Gold and Hunter’s Dry Cider. The relocation of production operations to the new custom-built, ultra-modern manufacturing facility in the Tatu Industrial Park required the installation of fixed fire suppression systems and solutions. Specialists in this space, Flammatech Limited, appointed SBS Solutions East Africa Limited to install two SBS Tanks fire water storage sump tanks at the new facility.
The two SBS Tanks, standing just over six metres tall, each store 516,000 litres of water. With over a million litres of fire water stored within the two modular, bolted steel panel water tanks, the new facility is not dependent on an external water supply to operate the sprinkler system within the building, safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of KWAL employees and customers and the investment of shareholders.
Founded in 1969, the KWAL shareholder base includes Dutch alcohol giant Heineken and the Kenyan government (through its Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation). The relocation to the fastest-growing new industrial zone in Kenya and East Africa is expected to enhance KWAL’s production capacity and competitiveness within the East African region. This step is part of the company’s long-term growth strategy and will improve local value creation and enable the group to rise to the challenges of ever-evolving consumer tastes.
